Finn Balor poses after successful surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.

Finn Balor successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday, August 23 to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. However, the latest rumors imply that he could be out for a longer period since doctors found out that his injury was "more severe than normal."

The Demon King became the first ever WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam when he defeated Seth Rollins. But during the match, he suffered a dislocated shoulder after getting powerbombed into the barricade.

Balor reportedly popped back his shoulder into place and continued to wrestle the match as planned. He was seen in a sling after the event and an MRI showed that he needs surgery. He relinquished the WWE Universal Championship the next night on Raw.

The 35-year-old vowed that he will come back stronger and reclaim the championship he never lost. He underwent successful shoulder surgery on Wednesday at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey R. Dugas and he told WWE.com in an interview that Balor's injury was more severe than initially thought. However, he noted that they were able to completely fix the shoulder.

"Finn's injury was pretty severe, more severe than normal. A really high energy injury, it did more damage than a standard shoulder dislocation where you simply tear the labrum," Dr. Dugas said.

"The prognosis is excellent, however. We were able to fix it all and put it back where it came from. I'm anticipating him getting back at full speed," he added.

The Irish superstar seems to be in good spirits after his surgery as he posted a photo of himself on Twitter after his surgery. He even gave his fans a "too sweet" sign that he has been using since he formed the Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

According to Heavy.com, Balor could be out for four to six months depending on how his body reacts to the injury and surgery. Shoulder injuries were very common last year with superstars such as John Cena, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton and Hideo Itami suffering the same fate.

Cena and Cesaro made it back faster than expected while Zayn recovered just in time. However, Orton and Itami were out for a longer period. Balor could return earlier like with Cena and Cesaro but the worst case scenario is for him to be out than six months.

WrestleMania 33 is still seven months away so The Demon King has a lot of time to recover. It will be held in Orlando and it is the perfect time for Balor to win back his WWE Universal Championship. Check out the video below for his speech in this week's episode of Raw.
