Samsung Galaxy S5 and S5 Active on AT&T finally have reason to smile since the network has rolled out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for the two smartphones. AT&T becomes the last carrier to push out the update with Galaxy Note 4 users on the network still left in the dark.
Samsung Galaxy S5 and S5 Active users on AT&T have been complaining for months about the carrier's inability to timely push out the update for the devices. Sprint was the first to roll out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on the two devices followed by T-Mobile and finally Verizon. According to T-Mobile official website, the update rolled out from May 23 for galaxy S5 users on its network.
AT&T Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update has the same build number for both devices, MMB29M, and it is slightly under 1GB, according to Android Authority. The update will offer the same advantages that Marshmallow provides on other devices, including video calling, Wi-Fi calling, and several security improvements.
To download the upgrade that is being pushed out over-the-air (OTA), users should be on a Wi-Fi connection. Galaxy S5 and S5 Active users can as well check the update manually by going to Settings>About Phone>Software Update>Check for Update.
AT&T customers who own the recently released Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are wondering when their version of the update will be rolling out. Once again, Sprint was the first to release the software update for Galaxy Note 4 owners in March, while T-Mobile and Verizon rolled out the update back in June.
Users on AT&T are understandably feeling left in the dark as the carrier continues to work on the update, despite the fact that the Note 4 is a newer device than either Galaxy S5 or S5 Active. The carrier is reputable for its continuous lateness in providing software upgrades to the level that most users are threatening to exit the network.
It is surprising to many AT&T Galaxy Note 4 owners that Google's latest OS, Android 7.0 Nougat, is already being pushed out to Nexus devices while their former flagship phablet remains stuck on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Here is a sneak peek for details on AT&T Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow rollout:
