On Valentine’s Day, theaters show romance movies. Thus, it is but appropriate that on Nov. 11, Single's Day in China, the novel by Chinese author Liu Zhenyun would be shown.

The novel, “A Sentence is Worth Thousands” or “Yi Ju Ding Yi Wan Ju,” was made into a movie titled “Someone to Talk to.” It was directed by Liu Yulin, Zhenyun’s daughter, reported China Daily.

The theme is timely amid the growing number of people who are single and live alone, not only in China but globally, as people choose not to be pressured into marriage for the sake of marrying but opt for a different lifestyle.

However, part of the life of a single person is the lack of interaction with other people. The movie adapts the second half of the novel and focuses on two ordinary people who go through various difficulties in their constant search for someone to talk to.

Even if they search long and hard to find the right person, the two look very peaceful although they have a tumultuous inner world.

Liu’s, whose novel was published in 2009, recommends the film not just to unmarried Chinese but even to married people. He explained, “Sometimes, a woman and her husband have been married for years and it seems the couple is going through some challenges, like infidelity. To avoid this situation happening, Someone to Talk to is the best textbook.”

The movie stars Chinese actress Li Qian and film actor Fan Wei. The other support cast are Sun Qian, Qi Xi and Yu Entai.

Meanwhile, the Alibaba Group said in mid-August that it would host again this year the 11.11 shopping festival countdown gala. The event would be broadcast live by Zhejiang Satellite TV, Alibaba’s official media partner, reported Marketing-Interactive.
