Being top commercial model in South Korea for the past three months has its downside. For Song Joong-ki, who has been open about being uncomfortable with losing his privacy, frequent travels for fan meets in China and other parts of Asia means frequent use of his passport.
In one recent travel, someone apparently made a copy of the “Descendants of the Sun” actor’s passport and leaked it to Chinese websites. Soompi reported that the likely culprit is a custom’s official who handles passports, made a copy of the identification document and released it online.
The incident not only exposes his personal information – although a lot of it is also found on Wikipedia – but it also makes the 30-year-old actor vulnerable to identity theft.
Prior to the passport leak, a fan also uploaded a fake marriage certificate, claiming she was married to Song Joong-ki.
AllKpop suspected that the illegal copying of the Hallyu star’s identification document happened when he arrived in Guangzhou for the May 27 fan meet. He has held fan meets in Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen and is scheduled to hold one in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chengdu and Taipei.
Before the incident, Song Joong-ki was also vocal about his parents losing their privacy as visitors to the community where the family residence is located take selfies in front of their homes. A lot of media also speculate on his relationship with “Descendants of the Sun” co-star Song Hye Kyo by insisting the two co-stars are dating secretly.
Now even his childhood photos are on YouTube.
