New Writers for ‘Descendants of the Sun 2’ Mean Song Joong-ki & Song Hye Kyo are Out

'Descendants of the Sun' stars Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki at the Chengdu Fan Meet on June 17.

Fans speculate “Descendants of the Sun” actors Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo are planning a secret wedding. Since the two Hallyu stars become closer and believed to have started a secret romantic relationship while they were filming the 16-episode blockbuster, chances of a wedding happening appear to be dimmer.

It’s because chance of the two spending more time together has drastically been diminished following an announcement on Thursday by NEW, the producer of the second season of “Descendants of the Sun,” that the Song couple are likely not part of the show. Inquisitr cited the characters the two played are not part of an entirely different storyline being developed by new writers.

Won Seok, the writer of season 1, refused to work for season 2 because the story has been told in the way he wanted it done. Given those factors, he believes there is no more story left to tell about Army Captain Yoo Shi-jin and Army surgeon Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon.

The only thing that would be retained in season 2 is the franchise title “Descendants of the Sun,” but beyond that, viewers should not expect another military-medical drama. Instead, the second season would closely follow the plot of "Criminal Minds," an American show, reported Bitbag.

Even before the report came out, the busy schedules of the two actors has been cited as among the reasons behind their not being part of a season 2. However, there have been unconfirmed reports that the two would star in a movie version of “Descendants of the Sun,” although its veracity is just as clear as the secret wedding rumors.
