Actors Jared Padalecki (L) and Jensen Ackles attend the 'Supernatural' Special Video Presentation and Q&A during Comic-Con International 2016 held at the San Diego Convention Center.

Exciting things are expected to happen in the upcoming episodes of "Supernatural" Season 12. The latest photos that were recently released have provided viewers a peek at Jared Padalecki's Sam being tortured, including a look at Dean and Sam's mother, Mary.

The Season 11 finale episode of the CW series "Supernatural" that aired on May 25 ended with a cliffhanger scene where Padalecki's character's fate was left unknown. Avid viewers may recall that Sam was shot by Lady Toni (Elizabeth Blackmore), a representative of the British chapter of the Men of Letters. At that time, it was unclear if Sam was killed by Blackmore's character or if he was able to avoid being fatally shot.

However, the photo stills for Season 12 posted on Entertainment Weekly has shown Sam looking very much alive although tied to a chair. It appears that Padalecki's character has been captured by Lady Toni and kept a prisoner in a basement. Sam may also experience some physical torture under the hands of the Men of Letters. One of the pictures featured Sam and a lady dressed in black holding a lighted blow torch in her hand.

Other images in the Season 12 photo stills have also shown Dean's (Jensen Ackles) efforts to try and find his brother. He appears to have joined forces with Castiel (Misha Collins) as the two gentlemen rode in a car together, along with the Winchester boys' mother.

Another interesting photo for the CW show's upcoming new season involves Samantha Smith's Mary. One of the pictures featured Mary holding an angel knife, as stated in the same report. It appears that viewers will be able to witness Smith's character's fighting and hunting skills in Season 12.

Cast member Ackles commented during the show's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con held in July that he has been looking forward to seeing Mary's hunter side, Variety reported. The said character has been known to slay a few demons and monsters during her youth.

Ackles added that upcoming Season 12 episodes will be interesting given the new family dynamics between Dean, Sam and Mary. "It'll be interesting to see the similarities in how she deals with the supernatural and how the boys deal with it," he stated.

"Supernatural" Season 12 has been slated for an Oct. 13 premiere on the CW.
