Song Joong-ki is Most Searched Name among Korean Celebrities in Google

“W” actor Lee Jong-suk may be experiencing some surge in his popularity because the webtoon he is starring in is dominating the Wednesday-Thursday time slot.

However, he pales in comparison to “Descendants of the Sun” actor Soong Jong-ki whose name is the most searched in Google, according to a Google Trends analysis the past week. It should be noted that the 16-episode blockbuster drama he starred in ended in mid-April, yet the 31-year-old actor has sustained his popularity among Hallyu stars, Asia Times reported.

After Lee Jong-suk, who is in second place, is Lee Min-Ho, followed by Park Shin-hye and Song Hye Kyo.

When it comes to region, the Google searches for Song Joong-ki mostly comes from Asia, particularly Myanmar and the Philippines. The search for Lee Jong-suk most came from Taiwan and Malaysia, while searchers for Lee Min-ho were mostly from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, Soompi reported that Song Joong Ki and Ryu Geun Ji are among three pairs of Korean stars who are friends in real life before they became celebrities. Ryu Gun Ji, a comedian, was Song Joong-ki’s classmate in elementary. The gauge of their friendship is the comedian visited the actor while Song Joong-ki was on military service.

The two had also posted on social media photos of their elementary school reunion. Ryu Geun Ji recalled they stopped communicating for some time but reconnected when Song Joong-ki served as MC of “Music Bank where he works as a comedian.

Other than the two, the list include Yoo Jae Suk and Lee Sueng Joon who are also former schoolmates, and Seo Hyun Jin and Han Ye Ru who both attended the same high school and dance class.
