Brie Larson's win in the Oscars this year for her role as Joy "Ma" Newsome in the 2015 movie ''Room'' made her the popular choice for the role of Carol Danvers in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) project ''Captain Marvel.'' The fans of Bryce Dallas Howard were unhappy with the announcement. Here are some of the reasons why Howard might have missed the bus.
Even though Howard showed her acting prowess in ''Jurassic World'' which was released on June 12, 2015 in the US, the recent win as the best actress in the Academy Award, made Larson the most sought after name in the industry. As Claire Dearing, the operations manager in ''Jurassic world'', Howard had shown her acting prowess. She was an ideal choice for the female superhero role. The movie crossed $1.670 billion in the box-office against a budget of $150 million, and gained more than ten times on the return on investment for the producers.
In an interview which was done almost a year back by Cinemablend, Howard was asked about her interest in the role of Carol Danvers. She was absolutely excited about the role and mentioned that she will be very happy to be part of future MCU projects if she is considered for them. ''Those movies are so fantastic, because talk about just these incredibly drawn characters! That's the joy of the comics, is that you fall in love with these characters and it's who they are that carries you from journey to journey to journey.''
She already had worked in MCU's 2007 movie ''Spider-Man 3'' and being a part of another big-budget sure-shot block-buster is a long-cherished dream for Howard. Even though she was Peter Parker / Spider-Man's (played by Tobey Maguire) lab-partner Gwen Stacy, and did not have a major role in the movie, the fans still remember her performance.
Howard was busy with the promotional activities of her movie ''Pete's Dragon'' which was released in the US on Aug. 12, 2016. She is currently is busy with her role as Kay in the upcoming movie ''Gold.'' It will be released in cinemas on Dec. 25, 2016 and the post-production work is going on in full-swing. Also the promotional activities of the movie will start soon.
In other news, Marvel might come up with another movie with the character Kamala Khan as the female superhero lead. However, that is dependent on the success of ''Captain Marvel'' and MCU will gauge the success of female superhero led movies first. According to a report on Inverse, this possibility was teased.
Hence, it is possible that MCU decided to use her for any future roles in upcoming movies and give the role to Larson who is a popular choice of the viewers now. Watch this video where Howard had talked about her desire to bag the role of Carol Danvers.
