Billionaire Masayoshi Son, chairman and chief executive officer of SoftBank Corp., speaks in front of mobile game images of Clash of Clans and Boom Beach by gamemaker Supercell Oy during a news conference in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

"Clash of Clans" September update is imminent and players are eager to know the exact release date. Rumors are rife that the upcoming September "COC" update will bring a penalty system and free gem mining.

While Supercell is yet to announce the specific date for the imminent "Clash of Clans" September update, the update will roll out by the third week of this month, MobiPicker reported. It is speculated that the looming "COC" update will be modified to outcompete Pokemon GO.

"Clash of Clans" September update will reportedly be more friendly to new players. As a result, players who are still below Town Hall Level 11 will benefit more in the upcoming update.

It is also believed that the September update will feature a penalty system. However, there are no further details on what exactly the penalty system will be about.

On top of the list for the "Clash of Clans" September update is the ability of gamers to mine gems for free. This implies that players can work hard to earn their gems without necessarily using real money.

In case the game developer pushes through with the mine for free gem feature in the "COC" update, more players would be attracted and those who ditched the game will consider coming back. Right now, the hit mobile game, Pokemon GO, lacks free Pokéballs and Pokécoins.

In the event players run out of the Pokéballs or Pokécoins, they would be forced to spend real money to purchase them once again, according to Game N Guide. Mining for free gems in "Clash of Clans" will restore the game's glory and probably enable it to overtake Pokemon GO.

Previously, Supercell constantly rolled out updates in an effort for the game to maintain its presence in the mainstream gaming sphere. It remains to be seen whether or not the once mobile games king will topple Pokemon GO and regain its popularity.
