Samoa Joe celebrates winning the NXT championship against Finn Balor in an NXT Live Event.

Samoa Joe has been on NXT for more than a year and he is more than ready for the WWE main roster. The latest rumors suggest that Joe might get called up later this year and he could be headed to the SmackDown Live brand.

The former NXT champion is currently out of television due to kayfabe injury he suffered at the hands of Shinsuke Nakamura. He is selling a dislocated jaw injury that happened at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II after getting hit with the Kinshasa.

According to Sportskeeda, Joe is scheduled to get rematch against The King of Strong Style for the NXT championship at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in November. It is noted that it will possibly be Joe's swan song match at developmental before he gets called up to the main roster.

The 37-year-old was rumored to be joining SmackDown when he makes his debut. There reports stating that he will be named as The Miz's challenger for the Intercontinental championship. However, it ended up being Dolph Ziggler.

Nevertheless, Joe has been on a tear ever since joining NXT last year. He went on to beat the likes of Baron Corbin before winning the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament with Finn Balor. He then turned heel and had a year-long feud against his former partner.

The Samoan Submission Machine finally won the NXT championship on April 21 at a live event in Lowell, Massachusetts. He only held it until August when he was defeated by Nakamura at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Joe revealed his desire to have a match with Brock Lesnar someday. That encounter has been a dream match for many hardcore fans since Joe is a legitimate fighter with an MMA background who can stand toe-to-toe with Lesnar.

"For selfish reasons, I'd like to see Brock stand tall until I get my hands on him. I'd like to see Brock pull through so I can get my shot at him," Joe said.

"WrestleMania 33. Where else would we fight?" he added after being asked where he would like to fight Lesnar.

However, it should be noted that these are just purely speculative at the moment. Joe will ultimately get called up sooner than later. Check out the video below to see Joe win the NXT championship last April 21.
