Chris is Jericho is untouchable at this point of his career. He's a wrestling legend who doesn't care if he takes a loss after another on a weekly basis. It won't change the fact that he already made a mark as one of the most charismatic superstars to ever compete in WWE.
Still, while another championship reign is far from Y2J's mind, the turn of events in over the past few weeks in Raw is steadily pushing him as an intriguing contender for Kevin Owens' WWE Universal Championship belt.
Owens, who is scheduled to defend his title against Seth Rollins and possibly Roman Reigns (if he loses to him in next week's Raw) in two weeks time at the Clash of the Champions, appears to be headed in a collision course with his fellow Canadian superstar.
Here are the three reasons why the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla emerges as Owen's next rival after Clash of the Champions:
-Y2J was originally booked to face Owens and Finn Balor in a triple-threat match at Hell in a Cell. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), a triple-threat title match featuring the three superstars at Hell in a Cell was already in place before Balor injured his shoulder during his championship match with Rollins at SummerSlam.
-Vince McMahon is willing to give Jericho another title run. Based on reports by several wrestling analysts, McMahon was impressed by Jericho's boldness to confront Brock Lesnar following a controversial ending at SummerSlam, which saw Randy Orton bathing in his own blood as a result of a huge gash made by the Beast Incarnate elbows.
Reports stated Jericho's bold move in the locker room left an impression in McMahon that Y2J may be ripe for another title shot, although it's unclear if WWE creative would go to the point of giving him a championship reign by beating the top heel in the company in Owens.
-Jericho's current role is perfect for a double-crossing angle. Turning on a tag-team partner or a faction member is never new in WWE. It's the angle that always sells to the audience and creates memorable moment for the wrestler.
Y2J's role as Owens' buddy puts him in prime position to create a bad blood feud with Owens. Although it's unclear if he's going to turn Baby Face, it's intriguing to see how WWE will stage Jericho's much anticipated double-cross on Owens. Clash of Champions appear to be an ideal venue for that scene, but it won't be bad either if it happens the following night at Raw.
