A.J. Styles celebrates after winning the WWE World Championship at Backlash.

A.J. Styles defeated Dean Ambrose at Backlash on Sunday to become the WWE World Championship. According to the latest rumors, Styles will likely hold the title for a long time and possibly until WrestleMania 33.

The Phenomenal One made history at Backlash when he became the first wrestler to ever win the NJPW, TNA and WWE World championships in his career. He also has had one of the best rookie years in recent WWE history having made his debut just this January at the Royal Rumble.

Styles' rise in the WWE is no surprise since he really is the best wrestler in the world at the moment. He started his WWE career by impressing in the Royal Rumble then having a great feud with Chris Jericho. He followed it up with a pair of classic matches against Roman Reigns.

The 39-year-old then went on to defeat John Cena twice cleanly on pay-per-view before getting his third opportunity to win the WWE World Championship. Even though he defeated Dean Ambrose after hitting a low blow, it fits his heelish character and makes it even more controversial.

According to Cageside Seats, the company's top officials are very happy with Styles and his performance that is why they decided to have him win the WWE World championship. He is also expected to have a lengthy title reign, possibly until WrestleMania 33.

Styles will be defending his title against Dean Ambrose in a rematch sometime before No Mercy wherein a Triple Threat Match with Cena is already official. However, Ambrose has become stale as champion while Cena is expected to miss the rest of the year to film "American Grit" that is why Styles likely won't drop the championship, per PW Mania.

Nevertheless, Styles winning the title is a great thing considering how he got to where he is now. He did not flourish in WWE and WCW in his early years. He honed his skills in TNA, NJPW and the independent circuit before finally making the jump to the WWE during his prime years.

Several reports earlier this year suggest that Vince McMahon is really high on Styles. The WWE chairman is reportedly wishing that he signed him ten years ago. Nonetheless, Styles is now with the WWE and he is proving to everybody why he is the best in the world.
