The fans of the popular Japanese manga series ''Highschool of the Dead'' have been waiting for a season 2 of the anime series for a long time now. However, there are no concrete updates of the season 2 to be aired anytime soon.

According to when-will.net, 6696 people are waiting for the season 2; however, in reality the numbers are much higher. The Madhouse studio is yet to renew or cancel the anime, and even though it has been more than five years ever since the first season was aired, the fans are still waiting to hear some news about the siring of the season 2.

The anime was adapted from the Manga series written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shoji Sato. The season 1 was directed by Tetsurō Araki, and the first season comprised of thirteen episodes which were aired between July 5, 2010 and Sep. 20, 2010 on the Japanese channel AT-X. Later they were telecast on Tokyo MX, TV Kanagawa, Chiba TV, KBS Kyoto, TV Saitama, TV Aichi and Sun TV and the popularity of the Japanese anime series spread in other parts of the world too.

In North America, Sentai Filmworks took the license of the anime series and it is more popular there.  Anime Network also had simulcasted this series. From March 10, 2011 to May 26, 2011 the English dub of this popular anime series was aired on Anime Network's VOD service. The viewers could also view it on Microsoft's Zune Marketplace from May 27, 2011. Apple's iTunes Store made it available on June 27, 2011 and the companies did good business due to the popularity of the show.

There are several reasons why the makers of this popular anime series did not want to create the season 2 despite a huge fan following. One of the main reasons behind the delay in giving green-signal to the making of the season 2 is the recent earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. The Japanese authorities are superstitious and hence do not want to create any storylines based on the apocalypse.

In Australia and New Zealand the series was distributed through ''Madman Entertainment'' and in near future if the season 2 is telecast, they might buy the rights of the season 2 also. Since the final 13th episode named as "Wandering Dead" ended in a note, ''the battle is not over yet!" the fans still are hoping that the season 2 might be created sometime by the makers, mentioned that blogger of fab news.
