The name of Brie Larson was announced in San Diego Comic-Con 2016 for the role of Carol Danvers in the female superhero movie from Marvel Cinematic Universe, ''Captain Marvel.'' Jessica Chastain was a strong contender for this role and her fans are upset that she did not bag this role.

Way back in 2014, Chastain was rumored to be a front-runner to play the role of Danvers. She was in talks with Marvel to sign a film and in an interview with MTV, she had revealed the same.

''We've talked about aligning our forces in the future," Chastain told MTV. "And here's the thing with me. If you're going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You're that character forever, so why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?"

The 39-year-old actress became the heartthrob of many when she played the role of Murphy "Murph" Cooper in 2014 American-British epic science fiction film ''Interstellar.'' This movie was directed by Christopher Nolan and collected $675.1 million in the box office. This movie till date is Chastain's highest-grossing movie as per worldwide collections.

Chastain played the role of Anna Morales who is the wife of Abel Morales (Oscar Isaac) who is the owner of Standard Heating Oil Company. In the movie the company was going through a rough time as many of its oil trucks were hijacked by unknown miscreants and the drama unfurls further.

This 2014 period crime drama film was directed by J. C. Chandor and did not do well in the box office. However, Chastain managed to get a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for best supporting actress.

Chastain's next success came in the form of the film ''The Martian'' where she played the role of Commander Melissa Lewis. Lewis was an officer in the United States Navy and this 2015 science fiction film collected $630.2 million in the box-office.

In "The Martian," Chastain's character was the Ares III mission commander, which is all set to invade Mars. The movie is set in 2035 and her fans thought that she is the perfect contender to play the role of ''Captain Marvel.''

Chastain already shares a rapport with the director Niki Caro who is one of the chosen names to direct ''Captain Marvel.'' Caro directed her in the movie ''The Zookeeper's Wife'' which will be released on March 31, 2017 in the United States.

The plot of ''Captain Marvel'' will evolve around Danvers who is an Air Force pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She gains superpowers after her blood was infused with the DNA of an alien by mistake.

While the speculations are on about the movie, watch this video where Chastain talked candidly about her desire to don the hat of a female superhero.
