Lupita Nyong'o $150,000 Pearl Studded Oscar Dress

The famous Oscar dress worn by actress Lupita Nyong'o has been returned back by thieves. The dress was stolen two days ago from Nyong'o's hotel room.

Nyong'o's dress was returned to the The London West Hollywood hotel room on Feb 27. TMZ has reported that the thief himself tipped them that he has returned the dress back after finding out that the pearls embellished on the dress were not real. The elaborate Calvin Klein pearl dress designed by Francisco Costa was reported missing from the hotel two days ago.

The hand-made pear covered dress  worn by the actress was claimed to be worth $150,000. The thief disclosed to TMZ that he stole the dress from Nyong'o's hotel room. After pinching the dress, he removed two pearls from the dress and took them to the Garment District in downtown Los Angeles, where they were told that pearls were fake. Thereafter, the famous dress was taken back to the hotel room in a trash bag to be dumped in a bathroom.

The dress worn by the Mexican-Kenyan actress was jewelled with 6,000 pearls and was deemed as one of the most commented looks of the Academy Awards night. The episode has become one the famous Oscar heists to date. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Guillermina Saldana said they are still investigating the case.

Detectives are still attempting to verify that the recovered dress is the same one which Nyong'o wore to Oscar night. The morning after the Oscars, Nyong'o has posted a snap of her dress along with Chopard jewels and satin Nicholas Kirkwood heels on Instagram, Daily Mail reported.
