There has been a lot of speculations that Tom Hiddleston will be joining "Sherlock" since Season 3 ended. Now that its fourth season is coming up in 2017, many claim that the "Thor" actor is "Sherrinford," the other brother of Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes.
According to Observer, the existence of an elder Holmes was first brought up by William S. Baring-Gold in a 1962 fictional biography, "Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street." In the story, Sherlock told stories of his family being county landlords. With Sherlock being a detective and Mycroft working for the government, it suggests a possibility that a third one exists to run these estates.
At the end of "Sherlock" season 3, it was evident in the last few seconds where Mycroft uttered these words to a colleague, "Don't be absurd. I'm not given to outbursts of brotherly compassion. You know what happened to the other one."
With this hint, the same publication is now suggesting season 4 will be revealing the details about Sherrinford. In line with the craze that Hiddleston will be taking the role, a Comic Con interview with showrunner Mark Gatiss may have almost confirmed the rumors. When asked whether they would have the Loki actor in "Sherlock" if given the chance, Gatiss teasingly responded, "Who says we haven't?" Nerdist reported.
In addition, at the start of season 3, it can be recalled Sherlock called his brother Mycroft, "Blud" when the latter helped him return from being "dead." Whether a coincidence or not, Gatiss used the same word as a caption when he tweeted a picture of himself with Hiddleston during the Comic Con. Although it may seem as a term used to denote someone as a friend, it is also used to specify someone is close to the person that he is treated like an own brother.
Season 4 of "Sherlock" is slated for launching in 2017. For other details surrounding the upcoming season of the TV series, watch the video clip below.
