It is not just the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 whose battery is exploding, prompting air carriers to ban the use or charging of that model.

kroopthesnoop posted recently on Reddit and Imgur a photo of a burnt rose gold Apple iPhone 7 resting against its box. Because of the damage, the display was separated from the chassis after the mobile unit caught fire.

The fire occurred while the phone was still in transit, said kroopthesnoop who pointed out, “I’m not certain, but something happened between the factory and delivery.” He said the phone belongs to his co-worker who pre-ordered the phone.

The owner was so excited but was surprised on seeing a burnt phone instead. However, the package did not catch fire, reported Daily Mail. An account executive of Apple contacted the owner, who is from Texas, and offered to replace the burnt unit.

Tech Times noted that the source of the fire is apparently the battery, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. However, so far, it is the only recorded instance of an iPhone 7 unlike the Samsung where 35 units, as of early September, were reported to have exploded out of 24 million units sold.

However, older models of iPhone have also burnt. In early August, 36-year-old Gareth Clear, an Australian management consultant, fell off his mountain bike and the iPhone 6 on his back pocket exploded. It melted his shorts and burned Clear’s butt.

“I just saw smoke coming out of my back pocket ... and then all of a sudden I felt this surging pain," said Clear. "I just remember looking at my leg and I had this black discharge all down my leg and this smell of phosphorus,” he added.
