The fans of the popular anime series ''Sword Art Online'' have been waiting for the release of the season 3 of the anime for a long time. As per the latest reports, it seems that the creators will release the new season 3 in 2018 after the release the live action series in 2017.

Since it is announced that ''Sword art Online'' will have a live action series telecast in 2017, the fans are curious to know about the release date of the season 3. It is reported that the season 3 of the TV anime series will be based on the ''Alicization'' Arc of the light novel series.

According to Variety, Skydance Media has acquired the television rights of this franchise. This series will be produced in partnership with KADOKAWA Corporation. "For years I have been inspired by the inventive and masterful storytelling of the SAO franchise. I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to work with such talented partners to bring this cutting-edge yet timeless story to a new format at Skydance," stated Laeta Kalogridis, the scriptwriter of this project. She will also be an executive producer on the series with CEO David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross.

While the fans are waiting for the season 3 to be aired, they can watch the old episodes on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and other streaming channels. The episode 2 of season 1, was entitled ''Bita" and was aired on July 15, 2012 on Tokyo MX. The English version was aired on Aug. 3, 2013 and was named as "Beater." In the second episode, the fans saw 2,000 players of this game dying due to the rules set by the creator of the game Akihiko Kayaba.

It was after one month the game was launched and the beta testers were trying to find a solution to clear the first floor. Another beta-tester Diavel and his team found the boss of the first floor and his name was Illfang the Kobold Lord. Kirito attended a meeting which was organized by Diabel and with this new knowledge he partnered with another young girl named Asuna and got ready to defeat Illfang.

Diavel's raid group finally arrived at the boss' room the next day and they started a battle against Illfang and his minions. Finally, they were able to bring down the energy levels of Illfang and his health became low. However, Illfang still managed to attack first and injured Diavel. Before dying, Diavel had requested Kirito to save the players by killing the boss which he managed to do. Kirito was sort of blamed for Diavel's death as he was unable to warn Diavel about the weapon which Illfang used.

Meanwhile, since now the live action series is announced, and the pre-production work has started, the fans can wait for the real action to start soon. Reki Kawahara who had written the original novel series is extremely excited about this new development, The Japan News reported.
