WWE Rumors: Bill Goldberg finally returning to WWE to help with the declining Raw ratings

| Oct 05, 2016 03:42 AM EDT

Bill Goldberg will appear in the WWE 2K17 video game as a pre-order exclusive character.

The WWE is having problems with the historically low ratings of Monday Night Raw for the past month but they might finally sign a superstar that can fix it. According to the latest rumors, the WWE is close to signing Bill Goldberg and he could be facing Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series.

The company's flagship show Raw has been beaten by Monday Night Football since September and it put up numbers close to an all-time low. The Women's Championship main event this past Monday helped increase viewers but the WWE needs to do something bigger to bring in viewers.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Goldberg is close to returning to the WWE. Both sides have had very "serious talks" in the past couple of days and a deal might have been signed already.

The report added that the 49-year-old superstar will be appearing on ESPN SportsCenter on Wednesday and it is expected to announce his return to the WWE. Other speculations include him facing The Beast in a match at WrestleMania 33 next year.

The two behemoths have been heavily promoted by the WWE as they are both featured in the WWE 2K17 video game and commercials. The company, as well as both superstars, has been teasing a confrontation ever since August.

Former WWE commentator Jim Ross revealed on Twitter that Goldberg vs. Lesnar is going to happen at Survivor Series this year. If it is indeed true, the buildup for it will help the ratings side of Raw while also creating a buzz that can attract casual fans.

However, Goldberg quickly responded to J.R. via Twitter, saying that he recently had double knee surgery. Nevertheless, the nature of the surgery has not been revealed which means he could still be cleared to wrestle.

According to Cageside Seats, Goldberg vs. Lesnar II at the Survivor Series in Toronto on November 20 is very possible. But it should be noted that these are just rumors at the moment and should be taken with a grain of salt.
