Germany began their quest to defend the World Cup title on Sep. 4 with a convincing 3-0 win over tough team Norway on the road at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, as per Goal.

Bayern Munich winger Thomas Müller was the man of the match for head coach Joachim Löw's side as he scored a brace and handed one assist playing in the entire game.

The 27-year-old, five-time Bundesliga champion broke the game's deadlock by netting his first goal right at the 15th minute with a left-footer from center box that went past the outstretched arms of Norway shot stopper Rune Jarstein.

He then assisted to Bayern Munich teammate Joshua Kimmich at the 45th to make it a 2-0 lead at the halftime interval for the Germans.

Müller then sealed the win in the second half with a close range header off a cross from Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira at the 60th minute.

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic opened their World Cup qualifying stint by being held on a 0-0 draw with fellow contenders Northern Ireland at their home field of Generali Arena in the country's capital city of Prague also on Sep. 4, SkySports reported.

Petr Cech is no longer around for new head coach Karel Jarolím's squad as the legendary goalkeeper has retired from international play after the recent Euro 2016 competitions. In his place is Basel keeper Tomas Vaclik, who has already capped eight times for the Czech Republic.

Jarolím was recently named manager of the Czech squad in July, replacing Pavel Vrba who joined Russian Premier League side FC Anzhi Makhachkala.
