Users of the OnePlus X should rejoice as the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update has finally been rolled out although there are still some bugs that could be fixed.
One problem for the OnePlus X updates is that the smartphone uses Oxygen OS, a modified version of the Android operating system. Developers have to make the update specifically for that version plus they have to code it according to the phone's specs and features.
OnePlus X has been stuck with the Android 5.1 Lollipop version even though the Android 7.0 Nougat version was released several days ago but the Marshmallow update has finally been sent out to users, TCC has learned. The upgrade comes in the form of the OnePlus X OxygenOS 3.1.3 update that users can download through the official OTA feature of their smartphones.
The problem with the update is that it prevents users from accessing the Google Play Store application which is where users search for and download their favorite apps. OnePlus X Marshmallow has a bug that causes the problem but the company has already posted a temporary solution for the problem.
Users need to disable the Google+ app first as it is causing conflicts with the Google Play Store application after the OnePlus X Oxygen OS Marshmallow update has been installed, HNGN reported. Disabling the app can be done through Settings > Apps and selecting the Google+ app.
Another concern is that the OnePlus X smartphone could still be lacking in security updates from Google themselves. Users could find themselves vulnerable to cyber threats and such when using the smartphone although that can be remedied by being careful in visiting sites or installing apps from unknown sources.
Updating to the new Marshmallow version can be done even if the user is still on Oxygen OS version 2.2.3, 3.1.0,3.1.1 and 3.1.2. They can directly download the update without the need for flashing back or upgrading incrementally.
OnePlus X users interested in the new OxygenOS Marshmallow update can download it OTA or search for the file itself on XDA forums. The OTA method is recommended for users who just want to upgrade quickly without having to plug it in to a computer.
