Marvel remained tight-lipped about its plans for a new installment in the "Blade" movie franchise. However, Kate Beckinsale's recent interview uncovered some interesting details including a crossover project that involved a lead character from the "Underworld" movie series.

Hollywood has seen its share of vampire movies that featured male and female protagonists tasked to save the world. Portrayed by the veteran action star Wesley Snipes, the hybrid vampire warrior known as Blade was one of these characters. Based on a Marvel comic book series, the movie's franchise spawned three films that were released during the late 1990s until the early 2000s.

The movie's third installment titled "Blade Trinity" served as the last movie for the film's franchise. Previous reports have hinted of a potential fourth movie installment and even a Netflix reboot. Recently, Beckinsale shared some details about the project during her appearance at the New York Comic-Con.

Beckinslae attended the said annual event to promote her upcoming movie "Underworld Blood Wars." When a fan asked about a potential crossover film that could feature Beckinsale's Selene and Snipes' Blade, the actress shared that they previously explored the said movie plot, Slash Film quoted her as saying.

Despite initial plans to put the two characters together, movie executives were not open to the said crossover movie, according to Beckinsale. It appears that Marvel Studios had a different project in mind for Snipes' hybrid vampire hero at that time and the suggested crossover project was not approved given the studio's busy schedule, the actress said.

As Beckinsale pointed out, Marvel is planning to do "something with Blade." It is unclear if the said project would be a TV series, a new movie or a special appearance in one of the upcoming films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Meanwhile, Snipes previously revealed that he met with movie executives to discuss potential projects that involved his vampire character. In an earlier interview with Deadline, he mentioned a "really productive" meeting that he had with Marvel but did not disclose details of the meeting. He also said the timelines for future projects were not finalized at that time.

"Blade" was released in August 1998, while its last film installment "Blade Trinity" hit movie theaters in 2004. Watch some of the interesting clips from "Blade 3" below:
