President Xi Urges Officials to Promote Good Chinese Values

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged policy makers and technology executives to tackle cyberspace issues through constructive talks.

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged public officials to promote good Chinese values by showing examples for the benefit of the entire population, with emphasis for the younger generation.

Xi made the pronouncements during a meeting with representatives from different towns, villages and units honored for by the Central Commission for Guiding Ethic and Cultural Progress on Feb. 28, Saturday.

Xi said: "Society is witnessing a collision of thoughts, ideas and ever-changing new technology. We should carefully analyze and take advantage of the trend to ensure that the moral and cultural drive is full of energy."

Xi pointed out that there should be a balance between industrial progress and morality and culture. The president stressed that morals and culture should be embedded not just in progress but in all aspects of Chinese society as a whole.

The president calls for more proactive measures in promoting social, professional and individual ethics, while at the same time championing the traditional Chinese culture.

"The Chinese cultural genes should be planted in the minds of the young," Xi said.

Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee Politburo Liu Yunshan awarded certificates to those honored by the Central Commission for Guiding Ethic and Cultural Progress.

Liu said in his speech that families must play a major role in dissemination of good values and tradition through responsible parenting.

The president's remarks that good values are part of his overall campaign to rid China's bureaucracy of the corruption that has been plaguing the country for several years.

Xi's approval rating with the masses is on the rise, as Chinese people witness hundreds of arrests and shaming of corrupt officials by Xi's discipline police.
