Toyota has recently announced that they will be recalling 340,000 Prius hybrid cars due to its faulty brakes. The car manufacturer also suggested a solution to the car dealers.

According to the Associated Press, Toyota Motor Corporation is recalling 340,000 gas-electric hybrid Prius cars around the world. 212,000 of those vehicles are in Japan and 94,000 are in North America. These cars will be recalled due to a defect in their parking brakes.

According to the official website of Toyota USA, the North American branch that they will be conducting a safety recall of the vehicles. They will recall approximately 92,000 model year 2016 and 2017 Prius sedan vehicles in the country.

The Japanese automaker told the Associated Press in a statement that they were not aware of any reports of accidents linked to the defect. They are currently looking into various reports after Oct. 3.

Toyota knows that this is an important safety recall and they are urging the customer to have this repair completed when the parts are available. The owners of these vehicles will be notified by first class mail starting in November.

The car company said that the parking brake cable can disengage unexpectedly. This will cause the brakes to stop working properly. If the car is left in any gear other than park, it might start rolling away, and it can cause an accident.

On Wednesday, the car company said that they have recalled 17,000 Prius cars in Europe, and the rest in Australia and in other regions. These models that have brake issues were made from August 2015 to October 2016.

Toyota said that the vehicles that had the defects were manufactured at its Tsutsumi plant in Toyota City, Japan. This is the company's headquarters, and this is one of the plants around the world that manufacture the Prius cars.

The car company gave out a solution to the car dealers for the issue. They said that the dealers should add clips to the top of the park brake cable dust boot. This will not be charged to the customers if they want this solution.
