Galaxy Note 7 banned from airflights, Samsung tries to take down YouTube 'GTA V' mod video

Samsung recalled units of the Galaxy Note 7.

The Galaxy Note 7 by Samsung has been quite the topic for some time in the mobile industry. With its unexpected defect that puts consumers in harm, the company has issued a recall for all units as much as possible.

Now, it has come to a point where the internet culture has been making fun on the phone. Samsung has tried to revive the product, but seeing as too many incidents of the phone being hazardous, this was a failed cause.

Some people are trying to patiently wait for the next batch replacement of the product, but the same problem is still occurring with the devices. Galaxy Note 7 is officially a declared dead product by Samsung. Several airlines have already banned Galaxy Note 7 devices from their flights to avoid accidents, Tech Radar has learned.

Manu Sharma, VP of Samsung India Electronics, said: "In India, those who has bought the phone from outside as it was not launched here will get a refund for the product," Sharma said.

"Galaxy Note 7 was supposed to be launched here last month. All the pre-bookings, which were made for the phone, will be converted into S7 Edge and S7," he added.

There are, however, who made this fiasco an ongoing joke, particularly a modder under the name HitmanNiko, from the game called "Grand Theft Auto V." He created the mod and uploaded a video on YouTube about the features of the mod. He replaced the weapon from the game called "sticky bombs" and re-textured it to make it look like a Galaxy Note 7.

Of course Samsung was not pleased with this and immediately tries to erase it from the internet completely, The Verge reported. The company has been abusing the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) in putting down the video. The act of the modder, however, does not exactly violate the rules of the DMCA because it does not fit into infringement of digital copyrights.

While most players are enjoying this mod, the real situation of the threats about the phone is still a serious matter. Bringing a Galaxy Note 7 on a plane could result in a criminal prosecution in the United States. More details about the banning of the device at airports can be found here.
