The announcement of "Beetlejuice 2" release date is probably one of the most anticipated in the movie world as of date. When news claiming Tim Burton's iconic horror-comedy movie is having a sequel came about, fans immediately started to wonder if there's going to be any truth to that.
For some time it seemed like avid fans were about to see the second installment in Burton's classic film, however, a new development suggests that it's not going to happen. A representative from the American director's camp vehemently denied any connections with the possible development of "Beetlejuice 2" nor its release date.
"I rep Tim Burton and wanted to let you know that Tim did not provide a statement to confirm 'Beetlejuice 2' as the movie is not in development," the rep revealed to Independent UK. "Tim's focus is entirely on 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children' and developing 'Dumbo.'"
And while "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" is already done, Tim Burton is still too busy with the development of a "Dumbo" live-action movie, making it impossible, at least for now, for him to work on a "Beetlejuice 2" movie.
The recent news is a complete contradictory to Burton's supposed confirmation during an interview a year ago. In the said interview, the 58-year-old highly acclaimed director/producer said that a "Beetlejuice 2" movie is a go, thus fans expected to hear a release date announcement during that time.
"The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team," Tim Burton reportedly told Showbizspy . "We have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona [Ryder] and Michael, we have the script in hand, everything is in place - all we need to do now is get ready to start filming."
Winona Ryder, on the other hand, also confirmed a "Beetlejuice 2" film, however, she did not mention any release date.
"I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview," Ryder revealed during NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers Show". "It was very hush-hush, top secret, 'I don't know what may happen, I don't know,' and then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's gonna be in it.'"
But then, Ryder did mention that while she can confirm it, she's still not sure of where the development is or what will really happen to the film. "So can I say... I mean if he said it," the 44-year-old actress said. "But I really don't know much more than anybody else."
