"Stranger Things" became a surprise hit on Netflix given its science fiction genre mixed with a 1980s vibe. Recently, director Shawn Levy shared his thoughts about the upcoming new season and what fans can expect from the show.
Production activities for "Stranger Things" Season 2 already started with the show's cast and crew members filming several scenes in Atlanta. Similar to the Netflix show's first season, filmmaker Levy will direct several episodes in Season 2.
In an interview with Collider, Levy commented that he and series creators, the Duffer brothers, have decided to follow their directorial arrangements in Season 1. As an on-set superstition, the Duffer brothers will helm episodes 1 and 2, while Levy will direct episodes 3 and 4.
Levy is set to start his filming activities in December and January with pre-production tasks scheduled to be completed towards the latter part of November. When asked to comment on the Netflix show's upcoming premiere, the director declined to disclose launch date timelines. However, he teased that Season 2 will not be released in Spring 2017.
"Stranger Things" Season 2 will also feature a time-jump including the introduction of several "great" characters, according to Levy. Despite the addition of new roles, the filmmaker commented that the Netflix series' new season will focus on core characters.
With the mysterious events that transpired in the Netflix show's first season, Levy also shared that normalcy will be one of the central themes in Season 2. The Byers family, as well as other beloved characters, will try their best to return to their normal lives but it will become a difficult challenge, according to the director.
Meanwhile, Levy recently gushed over the cast members table read activity that transpired in early November. The filmmaker told Screen Rant that he became "very excited" after he heard the actors reading through the scripts for the first half of Season 2.
