With the win, Wolfsburg climbed out of the relegation zone up to the 14th spot of the league table, two points above the bottom three.

Meanwhile, Schalke extended its unbeaten run to five games after crushing bottom three team Werder Bremen, 3-1, at their home ground of Veltins Arena on Nov. 6, ESPN reported.

Austrian midfielder Alessandro Schopf netted a brace to lead head coach Markus Weinzierl's side in the game.

Schopf opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a header from the center of the box. It was immediately doubled by Algerian teammate Nabil Bentaleb three minutes later to give the home team an early 2-0 lead.

Werder Bremen forward Serge Gnabry then scored a goal with a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to trim the gap to only one point at the halftime break.
