Samsung starts latest firmware update for Galaxy S6, S6 Edge; Update expected to be released after S7, S7 Edge

New Android 7.0 Nougat release news for Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge Plus, Note 5, Note 7,S6 Edge; What about S5?

After Samsung's reported release of the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware on Samsung S7 and S7 Edge models, tagged as 'Galaxy Beta Program,' the company did not wait for long to bring the latest OS update on its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge units.

The South Korean company is working on Android Nougat-based firmware bearing build number: XXS5DPK7 for the 2015-based Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The update includes fixing bugs, slight or major improvements for performance and software or bringing newer Operating System versions to particular devices.

Although the development have been started, it is highly unlikely that the smartphones would get the update any time before next year. Since the Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to acquire the latest firmware early next year, it is rumored that the S6 models will likely follow, according to SamMobile.

Earlier, The Galaxy Beta program, which started on Nov. 9 and shall continue until mid-December, allows selected Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge models beta users the ability to send feedback and suggestions directly to Samsung.

According to TechTimes, one of the new features included in Android 7.0 Nougat covers a new power savings enhancement that will squeeze more battery life out of smartphones, which is tagged as Google's Doze. Additional specs include new Grace UX contained in the discontinued Galaxy Note 7, multi-window, direct reply notifications, Extra power efficiency, Google Assistant, VR interface, Seamless updates, Data saver, Improved file browser, Instant Apps, bundled notifications, and improved Java 8 language support.

The firmware update will be available firstly to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge before making it available to other gadgets like the Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S7 Batman edition, Galaxy S7 Olympic edition, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S6 Ironman edition, and Galaxy S6 Active.

Countries like Europe, Latin America, South Africa and Asia would enjoy the firmware update that would run in a 6.0.1 version.

Aside from the Nougat-based features, Samsung is expected to incorporate its own custom UI, upgraded device maintenance app, improved blue light filter and many more value-added features to provide enriched user-experience.
