Fans may start to see more of BLACKPINK in other shows other music programs soon.
In an interview with Ilgan Sports, BLACKPINK was asked why they do not appear in shows other than music programs, to which main rapper Jennie Kim answered, "We want to show a perfect performance to make up for the long time (six years) we have been practicing as trainees. So we want to actively take part in music programs. We believe that we can join other shows once we can showcase our perfect performances on stage."
BLACKPINK teased that they will appear in variety show "Weekly Idol," which is a must for idol groups. In the show, the funny profile of each member will be revealed and it seemed that they will dance a faster version of their hit song "Boombayah".
It is still unknown which shows BLACKPINK will appear to. In the past, YG artists appear only in selected shows. Most of the time, a single member appears in a show. However, YG artists boast flawless performance on stage, which they considered as their priority.
Meanwhile, some idols from the agencies are taking acting lessons so they can appear in drama and variety programs. Some of the idols taking acting lessons are Dara, Kang Seungyoon, Chanwoo, Nam Taehyun, and Kim Jisoo.
BLACKPINK is YG Entertainment's second generation female group seven years after 2NE1 debuted. For quite a long time, YG held back in debuting another girl group building the anticipation on possible members.
BLACKPINK debuted on August 8 with two title track "BOOMBAYAH" and "Whistle" - tunes that are reminiscent of 2NE1 songs. They recently held a comeback on Nov. 1 with more mellow tracks "Playing With Fire" and "Stay" that shows off the versatility of the members.
The girls also responded to accusations that they were just a copycat of their sunbae group from the same agency 2NE1. Instead of being disappointed from the comparisons between them and 2NE1, BLACKPINK members felt flattered and said that they look up to 2NE1 as they were a huge influence to them.
