2NE1 leader CL documentary reveals how the South Korean singer is trying to conquer the US music industry one song at a time.
According to Elle, the director of CL's "Lifted" music video Dave Meyers also shot the singer's documentary entitled "Breaking America," which is about her journey from being a South Korean idol to an up and coming female rapper in the US. The documentary was released by CNN Style.
CL described how American music industry is different from Asia. "It's the complete opposite of Asia. Because you know in Korea everything is about yin yang and keeping the balance. There's a saying in Asia, if you're too strong you break. But here, I feel like it is about being too strong. I want to see how I could take that yin yang and do it here," the singer said.
The rapper is determined to force her way in in the music scene. "It's a different crowd out here and I can't do it the same way. I feel like I put so much energy and time into it that I, I'm going to, I have to do it. I think it's also about how you do it and what the message is and who I represent and who I am. So I want to do it right, and that's why it's taking so long."
It can be remembered that it has been years since reports of CL's US debut will happen, but it was consistently delayed because CL is reportedly waiting for the right time to drop her first US single.
In the documentary, CL is also asked about how she deals with the haters and bashers that could derail her from her career path. CL simply replied, "These days, I mean my fans are internet kids. So they're everywhere...I'm happy you know. If I can inspire them, or even if they hate me," CL added. "It takes so much effort and energy to hate something or someone or anything so, I appreciate the hate!"
Currently, CL is busy with her North American and Canadian tour and trying to open new doors of opportunities to show off her skills to the American audience.
