2NE1 group member CL jumpstarted her "Hello B----es" concert tour with a sold-out performance in New York City. Meanwhile, the "Lifted" singer has been lauded as the next big Kpop artist to break into the American music scene.
Hollywood has seen its share of South Korean musicians and Kpop groups whose albums, songs and performances captured the interest of avid music lovers. Psy took the world by storm with his "Gangnam Style" track, followed by Big Bang, BTS and other idol groups. Recently, 2NE1's band leader CL embarked on her own solo music career in the U.S.
CL's "Hello B----es" concert tour gave fans a look at the South Korean singer's invigorating stage without her fellow 2NE1 members. With the Kpop artist's New York show at the Hammerstein Ballroom, CL managed to fill the said venue with thousands of her loyal fans.
Held on Oct. 29, Saturday, CL started her concert by paying tribute to her 2NE1 roots, according to Billboard. Performing Kpop hits such as "Fire," "Can't Nobody," "I am the Best," "Come Back Home" and other tracks, the Korean singer had the crowd dancing and singing along to her solo rendition of the said Kpop girl group's famous songs.
Despite the concertgoers' anticipation for the potential unveiling of the singer's new tracks, CL only performed her previously released songs. The 2NE1 singer impressed her fans with her performance of "The Baddest Female," "Doctor Pepper" and "MTBD." CL ended her New York concert with her U.S. debut single "Lifted" and "Hello B----es."
Meanwhile, the South Korean singer's nine-city concert tour will bring CL to different parts of the America, as well as Canada. The 2NE1 band leader will end her concert series with a performance in Toronto on Nov. 14.
In other news, given CL's rising popularity in the Hollywood music scene, the singer has been described as the future of Kpop in America. With a partnership with the music mogul Scooter Braun, the Korean artist is expected to have a successful solo music career in the U.S.
In an interview with Time, Kpop music critic Jeff Benjamin cited several elements that will play an important role in CL's American music career. He stated, "A lot of it is timing and the right song and the right music and the right way of presentation."
