The 21st Asian Television Awards will be held early in December, and entertainment groups from different countries are vying for the different awards, including Best Lifestyle Programme, Best 2D Animated Programme, Best Live Sports Coverage, among others.
The nominees in the Best Drama Series category, according to the award-giving body's website, are: Japan's "Downtown Rocket" (Tokyo Broadcasting System Television); Korea's "Descendants of the Sun" (Korean Broadcasting System) and "Marriage Contract" (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation); Singapore's "Halfworlds" (HBO Asia), "The Hush," "The Journey: Our Homeland," "Bingit 3," and "The Dream Makers 2" (Mediacorp Pte Ltd).
In the Best Comedy Programme, the nominees are: Hong Kong's "Short End of the Stick" (Television Broadcasts Limited); Singapore's "Run Rachel Run" (Mediacorp Pte Ltd); Australia's "Ronny Chieng: International Student" (Sticky Pictures Pty Ltd); the Philippines' "Bubble Gang" (GMA Network, Inc.); Thailand's "Ra-Berd Therd-Therng Dancer Thaluang Sai (House of Blast - The Girl Next Door)" (Workpoint Entertainment Public Company Limited); and Indonesia's "OK-JEK" (PT. NET Mediatama Televisi).
The Best General Entertainment Programme nominees are: Australia's "The Great Australian Spelling Bee (Endemol Shine Australia); Japan's "A Variety Show with Real Buddhist Monks" (TV Asahi Corporation); Malaysia's "The Eco Traveller - El Nido" (GOASEAN Sdn Bhd); Hong Kong's "DoDo Go Shopping" (Television Broadcasts Limited); India's "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded" (BBC Worldwide Media Pvt Ltd); Singapore's "The History Hustle" (Mustard Collective Limited); and Thailand's "Lek Auat Kam (Secret of Numbers)" (Workpoint Entertainment Public Company Limited).
The nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role are: Singapore's A. Panneeirchelvam for "Thalaimurai"; Thaland's Sukollawat Kanaros for "The Sisters"; Taiwan's Chen Kun-Chang for "The Taste of Dang-Liang's Family"; Malaysia's Bront Palarae for "Eropah, Here I Am" and Frederick Lee for "Turning Point"; and Singapore's Christopher Lee for "Crescendo."
In the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, the nominees are: Taiwan's Ko Chia-Yen for "La Grande Chaumiere Violette," Mei Fang for "Laugh for 24 Hours," and Cheryl Yang for "A Touch of Green"; Singapore's Jojo Goh for "The Love Machine" and Farhana M Noor for "Bunja Tanjong"; Thailand's Fonthip Watcharatrakul for "The Sisters"; and Hong Kong's Kristal Tin for "Ghost of Relativity."
Other categories include Best Documentary Series, Best Natural History or Wildlife Programme, Best News Programme, Best Childrens' Programme, Best Music Programme, among many others.
According to the Inquirer, the 21st Asian Television Awards will be hosted by Adrian Pang, Alden Richards, Baki Zainal, and Stephanie Carrington, and the performers include Rossa Roslina, Charli XCX, and JJ Lin. It will be held at the Suntec City Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, Dec. 2.
