K-pop boy band BAP: All about the 2015 and 2016 MTV EMA's Best Korean Act

MTV Europe Music Awards 2016 takes place on November 6, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

K-Pop six-member boy band B.A.P. was named Best Korean Act at the 2016 MTV European Music Awards earlier this month. They are the first artists to receive the award twice, making a history in the MTV EMAs.

B.A.P., which stands for Best Absolute Perfect beat other nominees GOT7, VIXX, TWICE and G-Friend this year, SBS reported. They have been aiming for the top from the very beginning and have lived up to their name on many occasions. In 2012, their EP "Warrior" made an impactful debut, was well-received and became No. 10 on the World Album chart.

TS Entertainment's sextet have earned many awards, both internationally and in Korea with albums that were always occupying the top three spots on Korea's Gaon Chart. Though their singles struggled to be on top 10, they made up with other acts to be the best absolute perfect act in K-Pop, according to Billboard.

The band has been nominated for five EMA and won three. They were also crowned the "Best Japan and Korean Act."  B.A.P.'s most recent full-length album "Noir" helped them break K-Pop records, becoming their fourth to land No. 1 on the World Album chart. It broke the tie between them and GOT7 as both bands previously had three No. 1s on the chart.

The musical style of B.A.P. is aggressive and influenced by hip hop. The boys pursue a tougher K-pop style. "Warrior" has combative energy with pounding beats, stomping, raps and grunting while featuring the boys as powerful and bad.

B.A.P. tried a more dangerous style in their music video "Skydive" which depicts violence and the boys as mobsters. Their softer side shows in singles "Coffee Shop" and "Feel So Good."

It was not all smooth for the six boys though. They had a rough patch when in November 2014, they filed a suit against their agency TS Entertainment for unfair profit distribution and mistreatment. They reached a settlement in August 2015 and released "Young, Wild & Free" after a year's hiatus in November 2015.

B.A.P. had been touring Korea and the world, bringing their "Live On Earth" tour worldwide, such as in the United States and Europe in 2013, 2014 and 2016. They have been active for four years and have released more than 20 singles.
