Toyota unveils C-HR compact crossover at the LA Auto show

New Toyota C-HR SUV on the display for introduction as a senior staff member takes a look at it cheerfully

Toyota unveiled the 2018 C-HR compact crossover at the LA Auto show thereby trumping the media days.

C-HR stands for Coupe High Rider and will be arriving for Toyota dealerships in the spring to escort a new contestant for red-hot Canadian compact SUV segment.

In fact, nearly one year ago for the first time, it appeared at the LA show as the Scion C-HR concept. With the expiration of Scion brand, the C-HR has been relaunched as a Toyota.

The inside driver "MeZone" cabin has diamond patterns all over featuring dual-zone climate control and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen that is raised high on the center stack. This is further progressed by a color 4.2-inch driver info display between the two main gauges in the instrument cluster.

Powered by 2.0-litre direct injection inline four-cylinder producing 144 hp and 139 lb/ft of torque on regular fuel, whose consumption capacity figures are yet to be affirmed.

While AWD is not available, D-HR has front-engine with front drive and a CVT transmission.

Coming as first for Toyota, there are double wishbone rear system featuring rear shocks, urethane upper supports and suspension which  is a new MacPherson strut setup.

 With 7-speed sequential manual shift mode, the CVT has a sport setting at steps up ratio changes.

The SUV C-HR will have a complete set of driver safety arrangements that include Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection function (PCS w/PD), Automatic Emergency Braking, Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist function (LDA w/SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB).

When it arrives in the spring, C-HR will be made available in two trim levels - XLE and XLE Premium. The pricing will be declared when cars are put for sale.
