Reports claimed that YG artists will boycott MAMA 2016.
"The final decision has been made that YG singers will not be participating in the 2016 MAMA at AsiaWorld-Expo on December 2 in Hong Kong." a representative from YG Entertainment has purportedly confirmed with Star News on Nov. 22.
"MAMA opened up online voting on Dec. 1, and we don't know if there's the possibility of winning an award yet," YG rep stated, as per AllKpop. "However, even if we do get invited, it's been decided that it would be impossible to prepare a performance for the award show," the source added.
Below are the four reasons why YG Entertainment will skip MAMA 2016
BigBang 10th anniversary comeback
YG's legendary boy group BigBang will hold a comeback on Dec.12. This will be the band's 10th anniversary comeback in celebration of their debut in 2006. They will release MADE full album. As a treat to their fans, the band will hold a concert in January in Seoul before its main rapper TOP commences with his military service.
Sechs Kies Comeback and Concert
90s boy band Sechs Kies recently signed under YG Entertainment and will hold a comeback on Dec. 1 and a concert next month. The group's main dance Jae In is YG CEO's Yang Hyun Suk's brother-in-law.
PSY's comeback
While details are scarce, YG confirmed that PSY will hold a comeback in December. There is a possibility that PSY will release another addictive hit like "Gangnam Style," "Gentleman," and "Napal Baji".
Possibility of BLACKPINK losing Best New Artist Award
Lastly, there is a possibility that YG's new girl group BLACKPINK will not win the Best New Artist of the Year. The girls may lose to project girl group I.O.I. While BLACKPINK bagged the rookie award of the year in other Awards shows, it may not happen in MAMA 2016 since "Produce 101" was aired in the cable channel. 2NE1, iKON, and WINNER all won Best New Artist Awards at their debut.
