Android 7 news & update: Android Nougat firmware expected to hit HTC 10; Leaks hints shortcut, lockscreen, clock changes

The HTC 10's Android 7.0 Nougat firmware was recently spotted along with leaked screenshots, affirming the rumors of the OS update's arrival for the device. The Nougat-based update will come in its two flagship phones, the HTC 10 and the HTC 10 Design in late November or Early December.

According to TechTimes, the latest news on HTC's Nougat update is first claimed by a notable leakster to HTC-oriented news, carrying the @LlabTooFeR monicker. On Nov. 16, @LlabTooFeR came in with set of images of the HTC 10 running on Android 7.0 Nougat on Twitter, thus, providing a legitimate proof that Android Nougat will indeed roll out to HTC devices in Q4 2017.

Through the leaked images, HTC is already running a stable build of Android Nougat, which reveals that the upgraded version for the firmware is imminent. The leakster also revealed that the build for the European variant of the HTC 10 was stable and the Taiwan-based OEM could move the model for the consumers.

According to Phone Arena, information from the screenshots also reveals that only some minor visual changes have been implemented on the HTC model. Some changes occurred on the device's shortcuts and the lockscreen, as well as the clock and weather widget.

HTC 10 will not the only smartphone by the Taiwanese company to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The list of other smartphones to get the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update includes HTC One A9 and HTC One M9.

Other handsets that will possibly install the firmware update include HTC Desire 820, HTC M8 and HTC Butterfly 3; however, the release date remains unconfirmed, but speculations hint at early 2017 update for the said devices.

According to the same leaker, HTC One M9 should receive the update in late December or sometime in January. In the past, HTC has been among the first to update their smartphones with major Android OS updates through its Sprint-exclusive Bolt.

On another note, Motorola is first in line to bring the Nougat features to its handsets, wherein the update lets Moto Z Droid and Droid Force to be compatible with Daydream mode.
