Shu Qi, along with her co-stars, promotes the film “The Village of No Return.”

Box-office queen Shu Qi teams up with award-winning director Chen Yu-Hsun in the upcoming comedy film “The Village of No Return” or Jian Wang Cun (健忘村) in Chinese.

From his hilarious TV commercials to memorable shorts Chen takes the director’s seat again with this action-comedy film. It is Chen’s sixth film foray in the comedy genre.

The film reunites Chen with producers Yeh Jufeng, Lee Lieh, and Warner Brothers Taiwan, following their breakout hit “Zone Pro Site.” It also features best actor awardee Wang Qianyuan as one of the main characters with Eric Tsang, Tony Yang, and Lin Mei-Hsiu as supporting characters.

“The Village of No Return” is set during the end of the Qing dynasty. The remote and isolated Yu Wang Village is turned upside down when a mysterious Taoist priest brings a magical equipment that can erase one’s memory.

Since then, all the villagers have forgotten their past. They live “happily ever after” while a dangerous plot behind their back is just about to be unveiled.

Both Shu Qi and Wang Qianyuan described the magic equipment as an important weapon in the film.

"The weapon can control people's minds, making them more agreeable. Also, it can change people's attitudes, suddenly making people that someone disliked liked much," Shu Qi first explained.

"When a person wears it on his or her head, it works on his or her brain. It's as simple as using a computer mouse to delete unsightly photographs off a computer while keeping only the best," described Wang Qianyuan.

He added: "It's a village with no decent person. Everyone is eager to pursue their desires: about women, money, or power. But the helmet accidentally releases them and makes them become better people."

The action-comedy film is due to be released in Spring 2017. Expected to be a blockbuster hit, it already has more than 11,000 likes on its Facebook page and is gaining more each day.
