2NE1 singer CL attends the Jeremy Scott fall 2013 fashion show during MADE fashion week at Milk Studios on February 13, 2013 in New York City.

Leader of 2NE1 CL is being blamed for the disbandment of 2NE1 with some people citing that her selfish ambition and shortcomings as a leader killed the group.

All Kpop translated the official announcement and it reads,

"Our contract with 2NE1 came to an end in May of 2016, and as we faced a situation where Minzy is no longer with us, we ultimately came to a decision of 2NE1's official disbandment after long discussion.

For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We, too, cannot express how upset and disappointed we are. However, we judge that it'll be difficult to continue promoting. We decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1's unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotions of the members.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who loved 2NE1 and their music."

Some netizens think that CL's US debut may have been a factor for the disbandment. While the group is on hiatus due to Park Bom's drug scandal, CL took the opportunity to further her career to the next level and penetrate the tough music scene in the United States. She is signed under Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun's recording company.

Rumor has it that YG Entertainment favoring CL and Dara's careers and solo project reportedly caused a rift among members, especially with the youngest member Minzy pushing her to leave the group. Some people think that CL, as a leader, should have pushed for Minzy's solo projects as well since she has a pull to YG execs. Minzy is very talented both in singing and dancing, which she could showcase while 2NE1 is on hiatus.

Meanwhile, CL is mum about the news of 2NE1 disbandment. While she and fellow member Dara renewed contracts with YG Entertainment, Park Bom reportedly did not renew her contract with the label in May. Minzy left the group and label and went to Music Works where she is reportedly prepping for her debut as a solo artist.
