"Tomb Raider" is getting a much-awaited reboot with Alicia Vikander taking over the role of Lara Croft, which was previously played by Angelina Jolie. The "Tomb Raider" reboot is expected to be released in 2018.

Producer Graham King reveals all the juicy details about the "Tomb Raider" reboot in an interview with Hey U Guys. The "Tomb Raider" reboot will go "back to the roots story" of Lara Croft.

"This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it," King shares about the "Tomb Raider" reboot plot. "I think the storytelling is really good and I think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this." The story will be based on the 2013 "Tomb Raider" video game.

Unlike the earlier "Tomb Raider" films, King's version will be more character-driven as opposed to action-heavy and explosive.

Vikander is also hoping to put her own spin on the title role that was made popular by Jolie in the early 2000s. She tells Digital Spy that she's "hoping we can do something fresh and new" to the upcoming "Tomb Raider" reboot. "This is quite a different take on it," she adds.

Lara Croft is a British character with posh British accent. While Vikander admits she has not started practicing that accent yet, she is hopeful she can nail it quickly. Given her experience playing the role of Vera Brittain in "Testament of Youth," perfecting her posh British accent should be easy for the Oscar-winning actress.

The role of Lara Craft is coveted among young actresses including Daisy Ridley, Emilia Clake, Cara Delevigne and Saoirse Ronan, who were all rumored to play the part at some point. Vikander, however, seems to be the perfect choice, considering her experience in action films such as "Jason Bourne" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."

The "Tomb Raider" reboot has been schedule for a March 16, 2018 release date.
