iPhone 7 issues: How to fix problems with activation, Bluetooth, short battery life

| Dec 04, 2016 10:20 AM EST

People buy the new iPhone's at an Apple store in Manhattan on September 16, 2016 in New York City.

The iPhone 7 is Apple's current generation smartphone, and it is not perfect. Problems keep popping up, such as issues with Bluetooth connectivity, fast battery discharge, and more. Even the initial activation is a dilemma for newly purchased units. Here are some workaround for such common issues with the device.

Activating issues

Before owners can use their new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, they must first activate their smartphone. This means that the device needs to connect to Apple's activation server before anything else can be performed. There are instances when the servers are busy and have a hard time authenticating such request. Gotta be Mobile suggests switching the SIM card from the old iPhone to the new one.

However, there are times when Apple Store personnel do not allow that to happen. If that is the case, it is better to bring home the new device and plug it to a computer. One should then use iTunes to activate the new device, just make sure that the application is up to date before starting the process. Another reliable way is to use a strong and reliable WiFi connection. This gets the job done every time.

Bluetooth connection issue

There are many Bluetooth devices available in the market that comes with several problems, the most common of which is failure to connect the wireless device to the iPhone 7. According to Cult of Mac, the best initial solution is to restart both devices -- one needs to power them both off, then turn them back on again.

One could also try to repair their Bluetooth devices. On the phone, go to Settings, tap Bluetooth, tap the icon on the device that needs to be reconnected, and chose Forget This Device. After confirming the process, initialize pairing mode and search the Bluetooth device on the phone. Simply tap to re-pair the devices.

Fast battery discharge

There are also reports that the latest smartphone's battery drains fast. Even after several iOS 10 updates, abnormal battery drain remains a particular issue. Many suggest that this is normal for a limited period of time since the device is adjusting to the sudden influx of those newly installed apps. After about two days, things should settle down.

If not, one should start checking the list of apps that continuously run in the background. This information can be accessed via Settings, then Battery. The Battery Usage tool should give users an idea on which application to turn off or uninstall from their iPhone 7s.

Additionally, users can also opt to use the new feature called Low Power Mode. The option can be turned on via the Battery options in Settings.

Headphone jack issue

Last but not the least is the missing 3.5 mm headphone jack on the latest smartphone. One solution is to purchase the Lightning-to-3.5 mm adapter sold at Apple Stores. One can also opt for the many wireless headphones out in the market.

The iPhone 7 was released in the United States last Sept. 16.
