In episode 9, Amelia left a note for Owen where she told him that she could no longer be with him. The couple, who just tied the knot a few months ago, was faced with the issue of pregnancy. Owen has been very vocal about his desire to have a child. He previously got Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) pregnant, but the latter decided to abort their baby.
Amelia, on the other hand, was pregnant with a baby from her previous marriage. However, due to her bad choices and alcohol addiction, the baby was born with a series defect and died. With this, Amelia has been confused on whether or not she wants to have a baby with her husband. In the letter that she gave to Owen, Amelia reminded him that her leaving does not have anything to do with him.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, McKidd said that Amelia has indeed left Owen, but it is possible that their separation would not be permanent. In real life, Scorsone is pregnant, but her pregnancy was not written in her storylines as Amelia. The actress welcomed her second child on Election Day and will return to the hit ABC series in the next couple of months. Her return will also pave the way for Owen and Amelia to finally talk about their issues.
Meanwhile, McKidd said that he understands where Owen and Amelia are coming from separately. The actor said that his heart goes out to Amelia because she is in so much pain. He also knows that Owen is also hurting because he wants a baby very badly, but also wants to stay with his wife. "He's starting to ask questions about where this is headed. He's not an idiot," he said.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is on a hiatus. The series will return with episode 10 on Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
