The "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise has grown to five major instalments and one spin-off. The most recent game, "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location," has just launched its "Custom Night" DLC expansion, indicating that the game will soon be ported to iOS and Android devices.
Series creator Scott Cawthon is known for giving official updates only on the series' website or on Steam. It was on the latter that he responded to fans and confirmed that "Sister Location" would be releasing on iOS and Android devices after "Custom Night" had released.
"Yes, I will release it for mobile," he posted at the time on Steam. "I want to finish working on the 'Custom Night' update first."
Responses to his announcement have been positive but there are consumers who have expressed concern given that "Sister Location" may not be suitable for mobile devices.
Unlike previous games in the series, this title requires precision navigation such as accurately pointing a flashlight at a target. These mechanics are suited for a mouse and keyboard but reportedly not ideal for a touch screen display.
The "Custom Night" update allows players to adjust the difficulty of the game, altering the aggression of each enemy animatronic from zero to 20. The most difficult setting is to set all of the animatronics at 20 and keep the game's general setting at "Very Hard."
This follows a tradition from the very first game in the franchise. Ever since the first game released a "20-20-20" custom difficulty had been available.
Given that "Custom Night" is now available it is widely speculated that the mobile version of the game will launch soon, presumably before the end of the year. Ports of the games have released just days or weeks after the Steam version have been made available.
In comparison, "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" launched on Steam by July 23, 2015 and the Android port followed just two days later. An iOS port was released on Aug. 3, 2015. "Five Nights at Freddy's 3,"on the other hand, was released on March 2, 2015. The mobile ports followed just days after.
However, Cawthon has not yet announced any release window for the mobile ports.
