The loss snapped a two-game unbeaten run by Cologne, who defeated Borussia Monchengladbach two rounds ago and settled to a goalless draw with Augsburg in their previous fixture.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund continued their climb up the Bundesliga standings with a 4-1 rout of Borussia Monchengladbach at their home stadium of Signal Iduna Park also last Saturday, Daily Mail Online reported.

Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led head coach Thomas Tuchel's side with a brace in the seventh and 68th minutes while Polish defender Lukasz Piszczek and French winger Ousmane Dembélé each scored a goal in the 15th and 64th minutes respectively.

Monchengladbach scored the opening goal in the sixth minute with a right-footed shot by Brazilian forward Raffael before the Borussians opened the floodgates to score the next four goals.
