Serie A 2016-2017: Sampdoria vs Lazio, Preview, Prediction & Predicted Lineup

Middling club UC Sampdoria (6-5-4, 22 points) will try to extend a five-game unbeaten run as the team faces contending squad SS Lazio (8-3-4, 28 points) at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 10 as the 2016-2017 Serie A season moves forward.

Sampdoria has alternated wins and draws in the last five rounds to remain undefeated and climb up to the ninth spot of the Italian top flight table. They are now only six points below Lazio, who currently occupies the final Europa qualifying berth for next season.

Sampdoria is coming off an impressive 2-0 blanking of contending team Torino also at their home stadium of Luigi Ferraris last Sunday, as per SkySports.

After finishing the first half in a goalless tie, La Samp broke the deadlock six minutes after the restart courtesy of a left-footed shot by Paraguayan midfielder Edgar Barreto off an assist by Argentine defender Matias Silvestre.

Czech forward Patrik Schick sealed the win in stoppage time with his own left-footer with the assist this time coming from Polish midfielder Karol Linetty.

Meanwhile, Lazio snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak after falling to Roma, 0-2, in a capital city derby last Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Goal reported.

It was also a goalless first half for both sides as the two clubs' defenses were able to fend off each other's attacks.

Finally, Roma was able to score the first goal of the game in the 64th minute with a left-footer from Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Lazio got a bad break two minutes later when substitute midfielder Danilo Cataldi was sent off with a straight red for violent conduct. A 10-man Lazio squad was then no match for Roma and I Giallorossi sealed the win with a goal by Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan in the 77th.

Lazio remained in the fifth spot in the overall standings despite the loss, eight points below league leaders and defending champions Juventus.
