Reeling contenders Atletico Madrid (7-4-4, 25 points) will look to snap a two-game winless slide as they clash with middling squad UD Las Palmas (5-4-6, 21 points) on Dec. 17, Saturday at the Vicente Calderon Stadium as the 2016-2017 La Liga season continues.

Atletico Madrid has been winless in four of their last five outings to drop to the sixth spot in the Spanish top flight table. They are now currently occupying the final Europa League qualifying berth for next season, but their target had always been qualifying for the Champions League.

Los Colchoneros is coming off a crushing 0-3 defeat to Villarreal on the road at the El Madrigal Stadium on Monday, as per Daily Mail Online.

Villarreal scored the first goal of the contest with a strike by Spanish midfielder Manu Trigueros in the 28th minute after a passing error between Tiago and Diego Godin near Atleti's net.

Head coach Diego Simeone's side almost equalized just 60 seconds after Trigueros' goal, but forward Antoine Griezmann's shot was blocked by Villarreal keeper Sergio Asenjo.

The hosts then doubled their lead in the 38th minute with a goal by Mexican midfielder Jonathan dos Santos to take a 2-0 lead at the break. Italian midfielder Roberto Soriano scored his team's third goal in injury time for the three-goal masterpiece.

Meanwhile, Las Palmas was held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted squad Leganes at their home ground of Gran Canaria Stadium last Saturday, via SkySports.

Head coach Quique Setién's squad opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a close-range right-footed shot by Croatian striker Marko Livaja off an assist by Brazilian defender Michel Macedo.

However, the visitors were able to equalize the match 76th minute as Spanish forward Miguel Ángel Guerrero converted a penalty kick off a foul by Las Palmas captain David Garcia.

It was the second straight drawn match for Los Amarillos as they are currently settled in the 10th place in the overall standings, only four points below Atletico Madrid.
