NFL New York Jets running back Chris Johnson, 29, was shot on his shoulder in a drive-by shooting on March 8, Sunday, in Orlando, Fla., where one of his companions was shot dead. Johnson was rushed to the hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to the authorities.

Johnson and another Reggie Johnson explained to the authorities that people in an unknown vehicle drove up beside their Jeep while on a red traffic light around 4 AM and just fired at them.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department did not disclose more information about Johnson and the incident that occurred but several sports news outlets have positively identified him as the Jets running back of the National Football League, Reuters reported.

While Johnson is set to be a free agent on Tuesday, he is still a member of the Jets organization until then. The team though declined his 2015 option in February. The running back's season with the Jets was not very fulfilling, he rushed for 663 yards with one rushing and one receiving touchdown.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and everyone impacted by this tragic event," the team said in a statement.

No one has been arrested on the current shooting incident, according to the Orlando police department, but an investigation is ongoing, according to Mail Online.

Earlier in the season, the running back was arrested in Orlando for carrying firearms. Law enforcements disclosed that they found two weapons inside his vehicle when he was arrested at the time. They charged him with second- degree misdemeanor offense for openly carrying guns.
