Eminem and "Game of Thrones" Season 7 have one thing in common. They will be both featured by HBO in 2017.
The "Rap God" rapper will not be joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" Season 7. However, he is one of the musicians featured in "The Defiant Ones," a four-part documentary series by Allen Hughes to be aired on HBO in 2017.
According to HBO's president of programming Casey Bloys, "The Defiant Ones" has everything that viewers expect in a great story, including drama, humor, tragedy and triumph. Filmed over three years, the documentary series will give details on how Eminem was discovered, among others.
"Allen Hughes takes you on a journey through some of the most important flash points of popular culture," Bloys said in a statement obtained by Variety. "And I'm delighted that we can bring this unforgettable saga to our viewers."
"The Defiant Ones" is about the business journey of Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. The two collaborated in 2008 to create Beats by Dre, which was initially a headphones brand but eventually expanded into digital music distribution and was bought by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion.
Hughes wrote "The Defiant Ones" with Lasse Jarvi and Doug Pray. Along with Hughes and Pray, the executive producers are Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Jerry Longarzo, Michael Lombardo and Gene Kirkwood with Steven Williams as producer.
Aside from Eminem, there are many other musicians to be featured in "The Defiant Ones." Among them are Snoop Dogg, Bono, Ice Cube, will.i.am, Trent Reznor, Tom Petty, JJ Fad, U2, N.W.A., Eazy-E, Nas, Bruce Springsteen and Blake Shelton's girlfriend Gwen Stefani, who collaborated with Eminem in the song "Kings Never Die."
Meanwhile, like the airing of "The Defiant Ones," the specific release date of "Game of Thrones" has yet to be announced. Recently, Sophie Turner told Vulture that the cast members of the HBO series will get matching tattoos if they survive to "Game of Thrones" Season 8.
