The Sacramento Kings are still running for a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference at eighth place but Rudy Gay has expressed disappointment with his stay in Sac Town. The Kings are bound to trade the 30-year-old and rumors say that he could possibly land with the Oklahoma City Thunders.
According to Fox Sports, if there is one big name to be traded this season, it would be Gay who expressed his desire to opt out of his contract with the Kings and test the waters in free agency next summer after saying a few months ago that he was frustrated with the organization about his future with the Kings and the team itself.
In the Vertical Podcast with Woj, veteran NBA journalist Adrian Wojnarowski said that Oklahoma City and the Indiana Pacers are interested to trade for the multi-faceted forward while the Houston Rockets "had some periphery interest" to trade for Gay.
Gay has been out for his second consecutive game after suffering a hip injury but he has posted impressive numbers with the Kings, averaging 18.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in the 23 games he played in this season. With OKC definitely needed someone to help Russell Westbrook, who has carried the Thunders this season after the departure of Kevin Durant, Gay might end up playing with the 'Brodie.'
Also in Wojnarowski's podcast, the deal shipping Gay to Oklahoma was already done before a Cameron Payne foot injury ended the deal. But Payne is reportedly just a few days away from returning and Gay's trade deal to the Thunder might soon be finalized.
Gay has been a member of the Sacramento Kings since the 2013-2014 season and a possible trade to OKC, Indiana or Houston would make it his fourth team in his 11-year NBA career.
If he gets traded to OKC, he would be a key addition to the Thunders who are at seventh place in the Western Conference behind a 16-11 record. Indiana, meanwhile, could use a guy like Gay to bolster their chances of securing a playoff spot in the East.
