Microsoft is rumored to issue next year a Windows 10-powered flagship handset that likely will be called Surface Phone. The device will possibly sport a supersized 6-inch screen profile with the release date happening as early as September 2017, a new report said.

The Surface Phone jumbo display, according to AllAboutWindowsPhone.com, was hinted by Microsoft Windows chief Terry Myerson. The same executive reportedly revealed that the Windows 10 support of ARM-based chips will specifically apply on various mobile screen sizes such as 6-inch, 10-inch and 14-inch. It is assumed that the latter two screens are tablet or 2-in-1 devices.

The same report pointed to a recent ZDNet news article written by known Microsoft insider Mary Jo Foley.

In the same article, Foley revealed that Microsoft's recent announcement of partnership with Qualcomm is designed for Windows 10 mobile devices with 6-inch display or higher. The story also made clear that the rumored x86 apps emulation for implementation will make use of the Cobalt emulation technology.

Apps emulation on a Windows 10 mobile device will be made possible thanks to Continuum or the OS feature that will allow Windows users to transform a tablet or mobile phone into a desktop by simply hooking up with a monitor. Foley indicated that this implementation will become optimal following the deployment of Windows 10 Redstone 3 update.

And both Cobalt emulation and Redstone 3 are expected to materialize by fall of 2017, which indicates that the Surface Phone rollout will happen as early as September of next year, AllAboutWindowsPhone.com reported. The same report added that there is the possibility that most of the key Surface Phone features will be shared with upcoming Windows 10 mobile devices.

The phrase "Microsoft will be offering Windows 10 on Qualcomm to OEMs," on Foley's report will likely mean that there will be other Windows 10 flagship smartphones aside from the in-house Surface Phone, the report said.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has recently hinted that when it hits the market, the rumored Surface Phone will be the ultimate mobile device, a sort of a unique and game-changing device. Reports also said that the device will be powered by Qualcomm's 2017 flagship Snapdragon 835 chip.

And as mentioned, the Surface Phone release date will come right after Microsoft's deployment of the Windows 10 Redstone 3 Update on September 2017 and not March as earlier rumored or following the Creators Update (codenamed Redstone 2) rollout.
